Loved this little restaurant. The food was great, very well seasoned. The staff very friendly. It was a new experience for me. You had to eat with your hands which I am not used to. Specially loved the spinach dish and the fish dish. It was very well spiced. The price was also good. I would go back for a casual night out.

Vous désirez bien manger et faire une découverte gustative tout en expérimentant l’agréable sensation de manger à la main …..et bien courez chez Little Ethiopia à Anvers . Vous passerez un moment étonnant et très agréable qui sort tout à fait des habitudes tant dans les plats proposés que dans la façon de les déguster. Nous avons pris un menu combiné viandes légumes reprenant 5 préparations différentes ce qui permet de gouter à plusieurs spécialités …un délice . A l’aide de délicieuses petites crêpes éthiopiennes vous saisissez la nourriture dans le plat pour le portez à la bouche. Un rince doigt est bien sur présent pour accompagner ce repas atypique . Les menus sont très bien présentés ( en français sur demande) et le service est sympathique et efficace. Une très belle soirée en amoureux

Been here a few times already, awesome food and pricing! Service is sometimes a bit slow, but it’s also one of it’s charms. The owner is waiting tables and helping out behind the bar, always smiling and helpful! On holidays and on weekends it might get crowded, so book ahead! Never felt robbed, always walked out satisfied!

Say no more, this is an excellent Ethiopian restaurant serving authentic Ethiopian food. Price is reasonable and has a great atmosphere. Where they could improve is faster table service but I am not finding fault as the ambiance was great.

“Valentine’s day”
Passing through Belgium 13th/14th we picked this restaurant as we had walked past it earlier in the day. And boy we were glad we did! We were treated to live music, great service and delicious food. They give you a guide book to explain the food you will be ordering and how you will be eating it! Amazing delicate flavours and a set menu which really was money well spent. As it was a full house service was slow at times but we were not in a rush at all.

Delicious and authentic Ethiopian cuisine. Very good value and excellent service by the waiters.The restaurant was busy however the food did not disappoint.We ordered kitfo ( the best kitfo I ever tested I might add) and lega tibs. It reminded me home I’m definitely coming back.

Heel leuk en lekker om zo een andere cultuur binnen te stappen. Alleen de avond toen wij er waren was de bediening matig. Geen uitleg hoe het werkte en slechte communicatie. Had hier veel meer van verwacht. Dit zou de beleving compleet maken. Toilet kan ook wat schoner.

Al een aantal keren geweest en altijd heerlijk gegeten, de eerste keer dat we er waren hadden we het valentijnsmenu (2016) maar omdat we zo lang moesten wachten op het dessert hebben we dat overgeslagen de volgende keren elk een gerecht uitgekozen en dat smaakte heerlijk (ik mocht zelfs om extra vragen zonder dat het op de rekening terug te zien was). ze hebben hier fruitbier wat ik erg lekker vind en ook voor vegetariers is hier meer dan voldoende keuze (ook heel handig als je gezelschap uit vega’s en vleeseters bestaat). Je krijgt een kleine amuse (vegetarisch en misschien zelfs veganisch) vooraf van het huis

Lekker eten (met zijn vingers), ethiopiaanse wijn, afrikaans decor, deze restaurant is zeker eens iets anders. De helft van het menu is vegetarisch. Wij hebben alvast genoten.

We chose Little Ethiopia ‘cause we wanted to try again Ethiopian cuisine and the place looked cosy and friendly, and we were not disappointed at all! The food was tasty (spicy!!!) and in big portions. All in all the price was quite good (we also had discount with online reservation). It was funny to eat with bare hands!  The owner and the crew were kind, asked if everything was fine and if we wanted some more and eventually they offered us tea and coffee. Strongly advised for a friendly African experience!

Het interieur is typisch Ethiopisch ingericht. Het eten werd ook klaar gemaakt op de manier hoe zij het doen en de producten zijn ook van Ethiopiën, want de eigenaar voert deze zelf in van zijn thuisland. Het is een totale belevenis en zeker de moeite waard. Wat nog een troef is ze zijn er super vriendelijk en ze zijn bereid om verschillende producten uit te leggen.

Na een dag veel lopen hier gaan eten. Heerlijk voorafje en uitgebreid hoofdgerecht. Na extra injera zaten we goed vol. Dit werd ons gratis aangeboden net als het voorproeven van de honingwijn. De honingwijn (Tej) is echt een aanrader! Goede service, snelle bediening, het eten was warm en goed op smaak.

Mijn man en ik besloten om een weekendje naar Antwerpen te gaan, omdat we door een zware periode heen gaan en even onze gedachten wilden verzetten. We besloten dit restaurant te bezoeken en dat was een verrassend goede keuze. We werden heel vriendelijk ontvangen en kregen een amuse evenals de kaart en een aparte kaart met uitleg over alle gerechten met een stukje achtergrond. Het restaurant zelf ziet er prachtig Ethiopisch en sfeervol uit. Nadat mijn man boven naar het toilet was geweest, kwam hij enthousiast terug en vertelde dat het boven nog mooier was. Onze gastheer zei toen direct dat we ook boven verder mochten eten, dat aanbod namen we graag aan. Het was boven nog authentieker en sfeervoller. Het eten was voortreffelijk en leuk om met je handen te mogen eten. Alles was perfect op smaak en lekker kruidig. Ook veel keus voor vegetariërs. Door de fijne service en het heerlijke eten op een sfeervolle plek vonden mijn man en ik het troostend en verwarmend om hier te zijn. Het eten was zo lekker dat we hier zeker nog voor terug zullen komen. De prijzen zijn heel goed te doen trouwens. Door de grote verscheidenheid aan gerechten en prijzen is dit restaurant ook toegankelijk voor mensen met een kleine beurs.

In het hartje van Antwerpen, ligt een kleine schatkamer, van de Ethiopische keuken. Het was ons eerste bezoek, maar zeker niet het laatste. De vriendelijke serveerster, maakte ons goed wegwijs met de menukaart. We kregen een aperitief, konden kiezen uit met of zonder alcohol. We konden verder kiezen uit een voorgerecht , hoofdgerecht en koffie of thee. Het hoofdgerecht, was met vis. We kregen beide een doekje om onze handen proper te maken, want we mochten met onze handen eten. De serveerster legde ons uit, hóe we dít moesten doen. We waren blij verrast, het was overheerlijk. Wij gaan zeker terug om de andere gerechten uit te proberen. De prijzen vallen mee, zowel van de gerechten als de dranken. Kort om een aanrader!

A wonderful, nutritious meal at a great price. We had one of the set meals where you can try a selection of different food and it was lovely to have such a variety of veggie options. The Ethiopian wine was also very nice! Decor is lovely and the atmosphere very welcoming. Staff are extremely friendly. Would definitely eat here again and recommend to others. Thanks for a lovely meal!

Een gezellig restaurantje, in het hartje van Antwerpen. Hier eet men zoals in Afrika…. met zijn vingers. Na een bondige uitleg van de ober, komt je voedsel onder een grote “Mexicaanse hoed” op tafel, alhoewel ze het daar wel een andere naam geven, die ik al ben vergeten. Als je het eten ziet oogt het een beetje vreemd, maar al snel zit je met je gezelschap lekker te eten. Met behulp van een soort “pannekoek” neem je de bereide gerechten met je vingers en alles smaakt eigenlijk even heerlijk. Verschillende smaken die we wel niet zo gewoon zijn maar gewoon…. lekker ! Een aanrader voor iedereen die eens iets anders, iets speciaals wil en eventjes wil afstappen van een klassiek restaurant bezoekje….. En heu… als je eten met je vingers echt niet ziet zitten en je vraagt het héél lief, dan heeft de ober zeker wel een conventioneel bestek voor je bij de hand, dus laat het gedeelte “met je vingers eten”, je hier zeker niet afschikken. Voor ons blijft het een AANRADER !

“Découverte originale”
Nous avons été ravi de découvrir Little Ethiopia. J’ai aimé l’originalité du repas, le seul petit bémol, je trouve qu’il pourrait quand même proposer aux clients de se laver les mains avant le repas ou de donner des serviettes humides style rince doigts pour la fin du repas (avant de retourner aux toilettes se laver les mains), mais bon, nous ne sommes pas habitué en tant qu’européens de manger avec les doigts. Pour ma part, j’ai adoré le repas en lui même était très bon et copieux, juste une petite déception au niveau de la mini salade composée qui faisait partie du plat, on voyait bien que la salade venait de sachet et elle ne donnait pas trop envie de la manger, dommage! Attention aussi aux épices, j’ai quand même demandé au serveur durant ma commande de me changer un mêt parce que trop piquant pour mon petit estomac fragile. Il l’a fait remplacer par autre chose qui était très bon . Le dessert m’a bien plu aussi, j’avais opté pour la salade de fruit frais et franchement, j’ai été agréablement surprise de recevoir une salade de fruits frais de saison, bravo! Je compte bien y retourner et y emmener des amis découvrir cet endroit différent des restaurants traditionnels . Si vous avez envie de découvertes originales et bien rendez visite à ce restaurant.

Snelle bediening alhoewel de zaak zo goed als vol zat midden in de week , spijtig genoeg waren de stoofpotjes bijna koud op de schotel behalve de kip die was heet, Is wel een speciale manier van eten met uw handen maar wel autenthiek zeker. buiten dat het een beetje te koud vlees was was het wel lekker en voldoende in hoeveelheid. zeker met de groupon was er aperitief + hapje en soep bij.

De gehele omkadering zou beter kunnen. Er staan iets te veel tafels bij elkaar en het bij het reserveren liep het al mis. Er staan niet veel wijnen en bieren op de kaart. Daarvan zijn er vervolgens een hele reeks niet. De aangeboden wijnen zijn niet top. De ontvangst en bediening zijn heel nonchalant. De gerechten zijn eenvoudig, maar lekker. Daar is niet op aan te merken. De gehele beleving maakt dat een gemiddelde score op zijn plaats is. Het eten met de handen is leuk, maar een vochtig doekje na het diner had op zijn plaats geweest. Voor de prijs moet je het niet laten. Deze is erg scherp over de hele lijn. Zeker een keertje doen, zonder dat ik het een absolute aanrader vind. Daarvoor zijn er te veel werkpunten.

“Weinig afwas voor het restaurant”
Heel vriendelijke ontvangst. Eten zonder bestek met de rechter hand. Voornamelijk kipgerechten op verschillende manieren klaargemaakt. Pikant of niet naar keuze. Ober neemt de nodige tijd om je wegwijs te maken in de plaatselijke gebruiken en smaken. Maaltijd bestaande uit meerdere gerechtjes allemaal eg lekker. Echt niet duur voor wat je allemaal krijgt.Om zes uur als eerste aanwezig maar liep later aardig vol. Daarom best reserveren.

Weinig bezielende bediening. Eten is ok maar zou wel wat meer toelichting bij mogen. Het eten wat wij hadden was eenzijdig. Een combinatieschotel van meerdere gerechten was waarwchijnlijk een stuk beter geweest.
Het personeel straalde absoluut geen betrokkenheid met het restaurant uit.

“Culinaire ontdekking van Ethiopië”
Gezellig en origineel restaurantje in het hart van Antwerpen waar je raar genoeg geen bestek krijgt, maar met de handen moet eten het voelt raar aan maar eens wat beetjes gedaan valt het goed mee, het eten is eenvoudig maar lekker zonder bijzonder pikant te noemen we hebben Ethiopisch bier gedronken en voor de koffie worden de bonen eerst gebrand in een pot, ze worden gemalen en geserveerd in een mooi koffiepotje, lekker en straffe koffie het is een bezoekje waard en de prijzen zijn zeer democratisch

My husband and I decided to try something different and went to Little Ethiopia. The food, the ambience and the service were all excellent. The decor is striking and inviting. You are given a little booklet that explains things about the food and related traditions upon entering. This helped alot with the menu, and also to authenticate the experience. The food arrived and was excellent. We had the meat platter, and all the food was extremely tasty, meat cooked perfectly, seasoned well and a good variety. It was enough to go home with a doggy bag! The service was great, with explanations of the menu, and Ethiopian culinary tradition. Overall a relaxed and very tasty experience. Will definitely return! PS, be sure to try the coffee, it’s delicious.

“Bien, mais pas aussi inoubliable”
Nous y avons dîné le dimanche soir. L’hôtel était plein à craquer, ce qui est un bon signe. Le service était sympathique, même si un peu lent au côté vers la fin. La nourriture était de bonne qualité et savoureux. Les boissons étaient satisfaisantes mais du vin rouge était trop froide. Les prix étaient très corrects. Dans l’ensemble, c’est un hôtel agréable, mais pas inoubliable.

The first time we ate Ethiopian food. Although the sharing platter is nice for the family atmosphere, the quality of the meat was very poor, too much bone and muscle, so not even possible to eat. The starter and veggie or fish on the shared ‘special little Ethiopia’ platter were ok, but the quality of the meat let the eating experience down!! Unfortunately the children’s dish came on the table very late (15 min after our main dish), so the little one already ate most of the veggies from our shared platter and when his dish came he was already full and his children’s dish was superfluous and we had to leave most of his plate. The staff was very friendly and atmosphere is great with beautiful decorations all over it is like being in Africa. Unfortunately the overall experience was very disappointing due to the quality of the food.

”Authentic Ethiopian and very good value”
Four of us attended and we ordered one plate for two and one single plate and this was plenty for four. The double was a mix on meat and vegetables in a large dish with a layer of Ethiopian unleavened bread to soak up the juices. The other dish was chicken and we had an Ethiopian tomato salad as a side. One gets stuck n with fingers and elegant dining it is not but the food was so good and the experience so pleasant we had great fun. Two of us had eaten Ethiopian elsewhere and we recognized this menu as authentic. The wine list has modestly priced wines which complement the food and there are beers of course. The owner is extremely welcoming and speaks extremely good English so can explain the menu to those who are unfamiliar. He also has a good booklet on Ethiopian cooking which one can read. In the summer there is also a small outside space for eating.

Совсем недалеко от центра, но абсолютно неприметное снаружи место. Если не знать, то легко его просто не заметить. Мы почти прошли мимо. И было бы очень жаль. Внутри очень уютно. Чувствуется, что хозяин вложил душу в оформление зала, чтобы рассказать и показать людям историю и традиции своей страны. Вместе с меню нам предложили прочитать небольшое эссе об Эфиопии, об особенностях кухни и традициях. Так что нам было чем заняться пока мы ждали заказ. Еда тоже порадовала, как подачей, так и вкусом. По цене очень демократично. В общем, мы остались очень довольны и обязательно придем сюда еще раз!

This restaurant is definitely a nice food experience with family or just in couple. You shared the food and instead of eating with a fork you eat with the injera (teff pancake). My 2 year old son loved it, but don’t expect the same taste as French pancakes. I like it anyway as well the different dishes you can order. Big choice for vegetarians. In the background good Ethiopian jazz music. We tried Ethiopian wine and even our french friends were surprised of the great taste and quality. Nice is that they show in the restaurant how they roast their coffee and the taste is just great! For my taste even better than in barista coffee bars! A must if you’ve a coffee lover. Prices are a bit high i guess but that’s the price you pay for eating in this central located neighbourhood.

“Toffe ervaring!”
Het eten is superlekker, een heel leuke ervaring voor mensen die eens een andere keuken willen proberen. Je krijgt uitleg bij de verschillende gerechten en ingrediënten. De gerechten worden zeer mooi gepresenteerd, in Afrikaanse korven zodat het allemaal zeer exotisch aandoet. De bediening was enorm vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Je kan gemakkelijk reserveren via de website. Het decor van het restaurant is ook heel gezellig en etnisch en als je binnenstapt, komen de heerlijke geuren je al tegemoet. Een echte aanrader!!

“Topkerel met een toprestaurant”
Wat een verademing. De uitbater is een fenomenaal vriendelijke kerel, goedlachs, en bedient met plezier zijn klanten. Verrassende wereldkeuken, maar wat is dat ethiopisch eten lekker (en zeker voldoende). Absoluut waar voor je geld! Nadien op het terras nog een vriendelijke babbel slaan, luisterend naar zijn verleden/verhaal… kortom, topavond.
Gewoon gaan en ontdekken!

First time we went here and for my husband the 1st time eating Ethiopian food. We enjoyed the ‘Tej’ as aperitif, though the bottle came with a certain smell. We had the Special Little Ethiopia combination, which was ok, though next time we would probably order a meat combination. Service was a bit slow, especially for the coffee, but it was worth the wait.

“Zalig genieten”
Wat een verrassend leuk restaurant.We voelden ons direct welkom. Leuke verrijkende babbel met de patron over Ethiopie en zijn eetgewoontes. Wij hebben de moederdagmenu gekozen….en het was genieten van het begin tot het einde. Heel verzorgd restaurant in Ethiopie-stijl. Het eten was super lekker en tof gepresenteerd en zeker prijs/kwaliteit in balans. Dit is zeker voor herhaling vatbaar!

“Via social deal”
Klein restaurant, leuke Afrikaanse voorwerpen zoals de stoelen. Vriendelijk ontvangst. Als het je eerste keer is, geven ze je een boek met weetjes over Ethiopië dat je kunt bekijken. We kregen een grote rieten mand waar een schotel in zat met vlees en vegetarische gerechten die we, in plaats van bestek, met een soort van pannenkoek moesten vastnemen en opeten. Als afsluiter namen we Ethiopische koffie, koffie in een aardwerken kannetje die we in kleine kommetjes konden gieten. Boven was er een mooi zaaltje voor een feestje. We gaan zeker nog een keer terug!

“Ontdekking van Ethiopische smaken!!”
Het is authentiek ingericht, kleinschalig niet voor grote groepen. Wel ideaal met vrienden of als koppel.
Bediening super vriendelijk en je g-krijgt goede informatie. er wordt ook rekening gehouden met wat ej al dan niet lekker zou vinden. Je krijgt bij aankomst ook meer informatie over ethioië en ook over de gerechten die je kan bestellen. Gewoon een keertje proberen je zal versteld staan van de lekkere smaken. Wij gaan zeker terug!!!!

“Un super moment!”
Une belle découverte à Anvers : accueil chaleureux, décoration cohérente et agréable et nourriture… Hummmm! En plus nous sommes arrivés tard proche de la fermeture mais ils ont eu la gentillesse de nous servir tout de même. Le plat découverte végétarien pour 2 personnes était très bon. Je recommande!

Le restaurant est super sympathique. La nourriture abondante et très bien servie. Seul point noir : un horrible escalier étroit et pentu nous mène vers les toilettes. Donc inaccessible aux personnes à mobilité reduite. Vraiment dommage.

I have been here for a few times now, love the Ethiopian food. Sometimes you need to wait a bit (for drinks, for the bill), but excellent price-quality. Toilet is upstairs, not accessible for wheelchairs.

“Erg leuke afwisseling op ‘gewoon’ naar een restaurant gaan”
Gezellig klein restaurantje, mooi gedecoreerd met allerlei Afrikaanse voorwerpen aan de muur en dergelijken. Het eten wordt erg leuk geserveerd (op een grote rieten schaal) en gegeten (lekker met de handjes! wel gele nagelranden de dag erna…).We hadden een soort mix schotel met vlees en groente. Het werd gegeten met een soort pannekoeken die een soort zure smaak hebben. Wij vonden dit niet storend, maar niet voor iedereen weggelegd gok ik. De smaak van de gerechtjes zelf wisselde, sommigen waren wel erg mild gekruid naar onze smaak, maar anderen juist heerlijk kruidig en pikant. Al met al een erg leuke plek om weer eens wat anders te ervaren als je naar een restaurant gaat!

“Bonne cuisine, mais service à revoir”
Nous avons apprécié ce restaurant pour les plats et l’originalité des goûts et de la manière de manger (on mange avec ses doigts !). La décoration est chaleureuse et les prix vraiment raisonnables. Par contre, le service n’est pas très chaleureux. C’était un serveur très peu loquace avec qui nous communiquions en anglais, à notre sortie du restaurant nous sommes partis en disant au revoir sans que personne ne nous regarde, ni ne nous réponde. Par ailleurs, le temps de service est très très long. Nous avons attendu 50 minutes après avoir commandé pour être servis. ça reste malgré cela une expérience sympathique avec un bon rapport qualité prix que nous conseillons.

“Interesting but a bit too much alternative ”
First time we visited Ethiopian restaurant. I can’t really remember what I was expecting but the fact it’s Ethiopian was telling me that the experience was going to be interesting. And it was exactly like that, interesting but not much more. What I’ve noticed was a very strange mix of music style that was played in the background and which didn’t always have any link with Ethiopia (it doesn’t necessarily need to have). The staff was very friendly so there I have no remarks. Interior is divided between ground floor and 1st floor. Downstairs interior is more like usual restaurant so tables and chairs while upstairs where we sat was more like a Ethiopian room so low chairs and sofas with decoration pieces serving like a table – all very interesting but maybe because I didn’t think about this possibility of interior, it didn’t give me a feeling of being in a restaurant but at someone’s home in Ethiopia (not bad, just unusual). Food was OK – we had a mix of different dishes – some of them with specific taste, definitely eatable but not 100% my thing. Prices are Belgian which is normal but it might maybe look that there is not a lot of food on the plate because it’s just the concept that it is like that. “Best lekker maar ook niet uitzonderlijk”
Bediening is wat trager dan in een gemiddeld restaurant maar eerlijk gezegd stoort dat niet zo want dan kom je toch wat meer tot rust en ze zijn echt heel aardig. Het eten zelf vond ik best lekker maar ook niet zo uitzonderlijk dat ik er een echt wauw gevoel van kreeg, er zijn lekkerder Ethiopische restaurants en ik heb de indruk dat het eten toch wat aangepast is aan de Europese smaak. De Ethiopische koffie die te verkrijgen is, zeker doen, je zal op niet veel plekken lekkerder koffie kunnen krijgen

It was a great idea visiting this, one of Antwerp’s few African restaurants. We had different dishes and loved the choices of African beer, Ethiopian coffee and eating with our hands (though the restaurant kindly provides cutlery, of course, as well as plenty of handwipes :)). Don’t be fooled by the steep staircase, there is lovely and unconventional seating upstairs!

“Food was OK”
The waiter was quite friendly. The restaurant has a bit of an African atmosphere, which is nice, though it could be done a bit better. The food was OK, but nothing extraordinary. We had a menu that allowed us to try a variety of choices: some were not too great, some were OK, some were somewhat nice. It could of course be that Ethiopian cuisine is just not our style, as we’d never had Ethiopian before. Value is definitely good: prices were in proportion with the meal and type of restaurant.

“Pas mal mais peut mieux faire !”
Deuxième expérience de la gastronomie éthiopienne (la première fois c’était à Bruxelles). Petit restaurant sympa situé dans une rue calme à 200m de la Grand Place. Peu de tables et resto bien garni pour un lundi soir. Accueil souriant du patron. Le restaurant propose une “promotion automne” à 18 € : 2 samosas en entrée (piquant !!!) puis un choix de 3 préparations de viande ou végétarienne. Servi de façon traditionnelle avec des crêpes faisant fonction de couverts. Les préparations sont assez goûteuses pour la plupart mais cela manque un peu de finesse et de subtilité, quant aux crêpes je les ai trouvées un peu trop épaisses. Thé au clous de girofle très bon pour digérer tout ça. En conclusion, c’était bon, les quantités suffisantes si on n’a pas trop faim et le prix correct. J’avais nettement plus apprécié la même déclinaison de plats goûtée à Bruxelles, mais le rapport qualité prix reste correct. Soirée agréable donc, sans plus.

We went to the restaurant because we saw it at tripadvisor. We wanted to try something new. We were suprised about the friendliness and good taste of the food. We had a mixed dish with vegetables and meet. This was really nice. Our friends had the meat dish. the only thing was the lamb chop was tough and full of bones. The special ethiopian beer and own roasted coffee were amazing. Also because it was Ethiopian new year the day before we came, they gave us a free glass of champagne. Overall a good experience

“Amazing experience”
First time I’ve had Ethiopian food. The owner of the place guided us through several dishes, he told us how it’s made and how to eat it using our hands. The food was rather sour but he explained that it’s typically Ethiopian. The atmosphere of the place is very cozy and gives off a good vibe. I would definitely recommend trying it.

“Great experience”
I love tasting different food from around the world. I never expected Ethiopian food to be like this. Very tasting and it was great t eat it the right way (no cutlery). I also tried the Tej, some kind of honey wine, but I did not like it that much. I loved the sambussa!

“Great find”
Was there on a weekend, very nice waiter. Loved that you get a guide with your menu what ethiopian food is, how it is made, how to eat what etc. Food was a bit more sour than what I’m used to in beed, but nevertheless had a great taste. The waiter also shows how best to eat with the pancakes.Will def go there again on next visit to Antwerp

“Séjour agréable”

“Not our “thing” really…”
We love to try out foreign food, so we were looking forward visiting Little Ethiopia. We ordered the “basket” with several dishes in it, so we could try a little bit of everything, but we disappointed. It’s quite “sour/vinegar” tasting; which was really not our thing. The restaurant has however a warm atmosphere, the staff is really nice – so do give it a try, you never know you might like it!

“Heerlijk eten en speciale ervaring”
Zeer enthousiast over dit restaurant. Ik was reeds eerder naar een Ethiopisch restaurant geweest en was ook daar niet teleurgesteld. Het eten hier was een stuk goedkoper dan mijn vorige ervaring in het andere Ethiopische restaurant en de kwaliteit was bijna even hoog. Ikzelf nam de vegetarische schotel, die heel stevig vulde, maar eveneens wel onder de noemer pikant kan gezet worden (hoewel dit niet duidelijk wordt meegedeeld zou ik toch oppassen voor zij die dit niet zo kunnen smaken/verdragen). In ieder geval denk ik dat dit een heel leuke familie maaltijd is, iedereen die met zijn handen eet en te samen van een zelfde schotel zitten eten, heeft toch iets heel charmant.

“Niet voor herhaling vatbaar”
Op 21/6 het vegetarisch zomermenu genomen. Het voorgerecht was lekker(evenals de koffie), maar het hoofdgerecht was een heel pak minder : koud, smaakloos en beperkte porties.Het restaurant straalt ook weinig Ethiopie uit (bijv. geen Afrikaanse muziek). Wel vriendelijke bediening.

The hosts are very welcoming and the restaurant is not too big, so you feel very comfortable talking and eating together. For me it’s quite normal to eat with my hand and I love Ethiopian food. “Delicious and Different”
We stumbled into this place by accident intrigued by the menu. The waiting staff were incredibly welcoming and the atmosphere was vibrant and homely, drinks were served pronto (the wine is very good) and there is a good selection of vegetarian and meat dishes alike.
We ordered a set menu of mixed meat and vegetables. The food, which was a mixture of different types of stews, came out in a huge wicker basket and we were advised to eat with our hands (the right hand to be specific) mopping up the sauce with a home made Ethiopian ‘bread’, which actually looks and tasted like a sour-dough pancake. Apparently eating with your hands gives it a different taste (and it really does!) and as we were a couple we were advised that it is Ethiopian tradition for the man to feed the woman (which was interesting)! I’ve never eaten anything like it before and honestly, it was really delicious and a fabulous experience! I expected the stews to be spicy-hot but they were mild with bags of punchy flavour.
The Decor is as relaxed and homely as the food is, so if you’re looking for Michelin style cuisine with perfectly plated food and stiff service then this is not the place to go, but if you’re looking for a good, honest and friendly meal in a homely environment then this place is for you.

Bin ins Little Ethiopia mehr zufällig reingestolpert. Es hat mich aber voll überzeugt.
Die Atmosphäre is sejr freundlich, tolle Deko….
Das Personal ist wirklich freundlich und bemüht. Die Karte bietet einiges an Auswahl.
Einziger Kritikpunkt ist dass die gemischten Vorspeisen für €7,50 schon etwas größer sein könnten. Dafür war der Hauptgang umso besser. Schlussendlich bin ich zufrieden und satt wieder rausgegangen.

Na een hartelijke ontvangt kregen wij een menu en omdat de meeste gasten onbekend zijn met de Ethiopiese keuken krijg er een documentatie bij die perfect het eten omschrijft. Wel eerst je handen wassen, want je eet met je handen. Het is een keuken waarin ze veel heerlijke kruiden gebruiken en dit in perfecte verhoudingen. Dit was echt genieten en de vriendelijke en attentvolle bediening hebben bijgedragen tot een heerlijke avond. En de verhouding prijs / kwaliteit is buitengewoon goed. En het Saint George lager bier is een uitstekende begeleiding van de maaltijd voor bierdrinkers.

Ook al is de Ethiopische cuisine niet precies een wereldwijde rage, is dit een goedbezocht restaurant is, zowel beneden als op de eerste verdieping. Het verschil tussen die twee etages ligt in de zitmeubels: beneden zit je aan gewone tafels en op gewone stoelen; boven zit je op lage krukjes en bankjes aan even lage tafeltjes; dit is de ‘authentieke’ verdieping waar je zit zoals ze in Ethiopië zitten. We zijn er per toeval terechtgekomen en vonden het niet vervelend. [ ]. Voor een diner zonder nagerecht mag je omstreeks twee uur inplannen. Dat heeft er niets mee te maken dat het eten zelf zo lang duurt, maar gewoon met een niet bepaald haastige bediening. Wat ons betreft, had het net iets vlotter gemogen, maar het heerlijke eten doet je de wachttijd snel vergeten. De vegetarische sambussa waren klein, maar smaakvol. De vegetarische combinatie met vijf gerechten op één groot bord bleek goedkoop (€28 voor twee personen), meer dan genoeg en lekker. Gegeten worden de gerechten niet met mes en vork, maar met behulp van sponsachtige zuurdesem-pannekoeken. Je scheurt er stukjes vanaf om daarmee je vlees, vis of groente op te nemen. Behalve dat die pannekoeken best smakelijk zijn, is het een leuke afwisseling om je eten eens op die manier binnen te werken. Het komt wel goed uit dat de toiletten – en vooral de gedeelde wasbak op de gang – zich op de eerste verdieping bevinden want je vingers zitten binnen de kortste keren onder het eten. Wie daarvan niet vies is en de tijd heeft, zou bij Little Ethiopia, net als wij, een plezante avond kunnen doorbrengen.

“Avondje op ontdekking”
Leuk typisch interieur met leuke tafeltjes en zitjes. Uitgebreide menukaart. Na 1.30u wachten kregen we eindelijk onze schotel. Zag er lekker uit, maar tegendeel was waar. Smaken vielen nog mee, maar het vlees was vreselijk taai. We waren met ons drie niet onder de indruk en best wel teleurgesteld. De koffie was nog het beste van al.

“Something different”
This is a small restaurant with fresh made very tasty Ethiopian food. The dishes are served with no cutlery and you eat with special made Ethiopian bread. It is worth getting a coffee after your meal, they grind the beans at your table and the local beer is also a must try.

”Authentic experience, great food!”
We came here on the recommendation of an employee and we were not disappointed! It was our first Ethiopian food experience and we loved it. The service was excellent, helpful and friendly. Top notch location and reasonable prices. Clarified butter was used for cooking, which we loved. Definitely visit this restaurant and sit upstairs for the complete experience.

“Cosy restaurant, original but not tasty”
Looking for something different, we tried Little Ethiopia. I first have to tell you that I have been to Africa and ate some delicious food there, so I know how tasty it can be. But the food here is bland. Our starters were no more than some tomato cubes with an enormous amount of (not even freshly grounded) pepper. We took the summer menu with a variety of plates. Not even one of the plates was really good, all were no more than acceptable to eat. And in contradiction to other reviews, we did not think it was a large portion. It is an experience to eat with your hands and the restaurant is a very nice place to be. So I would say: good for once.

“Delicious and special tastes!”
I went with my boyfriend to Little Ethiopia and it was great! I really liked the atmosphere in the restaurant, with all the colours, decorations and pictures. We took the Little Ethiopia Combination, which I really recommend. The chicken is greaaaat, as is the fish!! The service was really kind and explained us how to eat, how the chicken was made. “Surprising tastes, very satisfied”
I wanted to try something different for my birthday and settled on the to me unknown ethiopian cuisine. The restaurant was cosy, but not very special in its decoration. We had a reservation, which was not necessary on a Monday evening (4 tables were occupied at 21 pm). We ordered the “Little Ethiopia” combination and some St. George beers. The beer was very good and when the food came (not a very long wait), we knew we were in for a treat! All the dishes were delicious and unlike any other kind of food I had had before. I like the chicken in Berbere sauce the best. The portions were very large as well! We had a great time here and I would certainly recommend!

“Hier mag je met je handjes eten!”
Op zondag voor de eerste keer een bezoekje gebracht aan Little Ethiopia, en het zal niet onze laatste keer zijn. Gezellig-heid troef in dit kleine eenvoudige ‘huiskamer’-restaurant. We arriveerden om 18 uur en al snel liep de zaak aardig vol. De inrichting is warm, uiteraard met Afrikaanse tinten. We werden op een sympathieke manier welkom geheten en bediend door een aardige man, die ons ook doorheen de menukaart hielp. Hij gaf ons de nodige aanwijz-ingen over hoe we de gerechtjes dienden te eten, zonder bestek dus! Dit vergt wel een aanpassing, maar eens je de hindernis genomen hebt, geniet je met volle teugen. We namen de Ethiopia special, een grote mand gevuld met vlees, vis en groenten, die je samen met een soort van pannekoekenbrood met je partner kan delen. Een leuke combinatie van de verschillende voedselgroepen, lekker gekruid, lekker warm en vooral… gezellig! Daarbij dronken we een lekker flesje merlot. Niet zozeer de kwaliteit van het eten (wat zeker OK is), maar de totaalbeleving maakt dit een toffe belevenis en een leuke avond. De kleine mankementjes: vergeten aperitiefjes en een foute fles wijn, namen we er met plezier bij. Wij zijn fan!

“Fantastisch gegeten!”

“Un vrai moment de culture et du partage”
Le chef Isaiah est un vrai passionné de sa culture éthiopienne qu’il sait partager avec respect et fierté. Autour d’un delicieux repas composé de plats de viandes ou végétarien, nous avons passé une soirée mémorable avec Isaiah et Armand, son comparse baroudeur. L’injera, le pain traditionnel, était léger, le beurre clarifié qui compose plusieurs plats est fait maison, le café est préparé dans la tradition et tout cela était extrêmement bon. C’est surtout une culture etiopienne originale dont on se nourrit par le goût prononcé et si particulier des épices, par la vue des photos et des objets traditionnels qui décorent le cadre chaleureux et intime. Pour nous, l’adresse exotique la plus sincère d’Anvers.

“Succulent”
Situé non loin de la grand place, dans une rue un peu à l’écart et non-commerçante. Nous y étions les seuls clients, un samedi midi. C’est ultra copieux, on veut sert un énorme plateau rempli de diverses spécialités, c’est vraiment succulent et de bonne qualité. Note pas très élevée et la serveuse, un peu désordonnée “à l’africaine”, mais super aimable, parle français. […| A recommander sans hésiter.

Wanted to try a different kitchen than usual. Ended up discovering this little restaurant and decided to give it a go. Waiter was very friendly and is glad to give you an explanation on customs in the Ethiopian Kitchen. The food itself was very fresh and tasted very good . I would easily come back here.

“A pleasant experience”
We ended up by chance in this street, and decided to try for the first time the Ethiopian experience. Overall it was good, the place is ok, and the food is not so bad. I think for once you can try it. The main dish with several small preparations (stew, chicken, vegetables) is good, the only “problem” (but is part of the game!) is that you should eat with these sort of spongy pancakes which after a while get quite filling! So you must switch to forks so to finish everything!

“LITTLE ETHIOPIA deserves a big recommendation…”
Lovely food (only criticism : the portions were too large, too generous), lovely welcoming people who took the time to explain a few details of Ethiopian culture / etiquette, which was a nice touch. Despite the very relaxing atmosphere, we did not need to wait long as the meal was served relatively quickly (but in a totally relaxed and unhurried way). Had a great time and hope to return soon. Reservation recommended :we had pre-booked our table and arrived early in the evening, but saw several people (without reservations) being turned away.

“Very special place”
This restaurant is definitely worth a visit,,, unique flavor of food, which will certainly appeal to everyone, and yet the special per serving, perception and taste. The restaurant, which surely must visit if you come in Antwerp, close to the city center, the old harbor. A warm recommendation, unique atmosphere, relaxed atmosphere and fantastic experience Ethiopian food.

“Très bonne expérience”
Premier pas dans la cuisine éthiopienne et nous avons pas été déçu ….très bien manger (menu BEYAYENETU viandes et légumes) cocktail maison delicieux. Rien a redire sur l’accueil et merci au cuisinier qui ‘c’est déplacé pour nous expliquer ce que nous mangions. A Anvers le français est très rare ;

“Tasty and Exotic”
We felt like something different and chose Little Ethiopia. After a small vegetarian entree (a kind of triangular pastry with vegetables), we had the combined vegetarian menu and got an assortment of 6 different dishes. The food was plentiful and not as spicy as expected. We found it over all very tasty. One tiny comment, the food was only luke-warm which was a pity. As for the service. This is not a quick snack kind a place and although it took a while before food came out of the kitchen, the wait did not bother us too much. Further, the waiter and waitress were friendly and attentive. […| We would go there again for another Ethiopian evening!

“Excellent food, Great atmosphere”
Although I’m not an expert on ethiopian food I though the food was pretty good, even better than average. The service was relaxed but correct, very friendly. Although there was only one waiter we did not get the feeling we had to wait for too long. The guy was very friendly and happy to explain everything that was served in out “food basket”. We asked for the mixed platter… which was really a lot of food for a very reasonable price. Definitely a place I would go back to.

This is a nice place! I’d had Ethiopian food once before (somewhere else), so I knew more or less what to expect. We ordered 2 combination dishes (one veg, one meat) and the food was very tasty. It was more than enough as well, for a very reasonable price. Plus, it’s definitely something different and the waiter was very friendly and willing to explain everything. Unfortunately, I did not have any coffee afterwards, so I will have to go back some day!

Met 4 koppels namen we de gecombineerde menu’s. Het concept was zeer leuk, de keuken is iets pikanter dan de onze, maar zeker niet te pikant! leuke muziek, we zaten boven in het zaaltje, waardoor het wel iets langer wachten was op onze drank. de prijs voor allemaal te samen inclusief een fles wijn, en egyptisch bier was 185 voor 8 personen. en het was echt lekker !!!!! Dus aan te raden zeker in groep om iets anders, we zagen ook kindermenu, voor kinderen kan dit ook leuk zijn, eten zonder vork of mes met handjes !!! we komen zeker ne keer terug

I went to Little Ethiopia with absolutely no background on Ethiopian traditions in matter of food. We chose a mixed plate with a bit of everything. The food has to be taken with your hands using the typical “spongy” bread. We had meat, vegetables and fish, the variety and the taste of the foods were delicious. You get a big plate with everything that is put in the centre of the table, so it’s easier share it with your companions.
I usually eat really a lot, but the food was so much that I couldn’t finish it, for a very reasonable price.
The service is fast and the personnel is very friendly!

“Köstlichkeiten aus der Hand”
Begeisterndes Restaurant mit äthiopischen Köstlichkeiten in authentischer Darreichungsform. Serviert werden die Speisen mit Injera-Brot (dünnes, lockeres, neutrales, gerolltes Sauerteigbrot), das mit etwas Geschick dazu verwendet wird, die Speisen aufzunehmen und mit der Hand in den Mund zu führen. Wir hatten eine Kombination aus vegetar-ischen, Fisch- und Fleischspeisen und konnten so als Neulinge einen umfassenden ersten Eindruck gewinnen, der sich gelohnt hat. Durch die uns teilweise sehr fremde Art des Würzens wurden wir auch durch bekannte Kombinationen (z.B. Kartoffeln mit Kohl) angenehm überrascht. Wir waren an einem Samstag zur Mittagszeit dort, eine Reservierung war absolut nicht notwendig. Für Abends waren allerdings fast alle der wenigen Tische reserviert, hier empfiehlt sich wohl eine Reservierung.

“Very tasty food. Good atmosphere.”
I went here with friends and we just happened to see the place near where we parked our car. After reading some reviews on TA, we decided to give Little Ethiopia a try. We were not disappointed. The food was very good. We ordered one of the sampler dinners for 3 and it was more than enough food. We probably could have ordered for 2 and would have had enough for 4. Really good sized portions. The atmosphere and the music were quite nice. The owner/manager working the front was very friendly and made sure that we knew how to eat Ethiopian (we did). My only complaint was that there were a few times where we needed small things but there was only the one guy waiting tables. A second server would have improved the service a bit, but overall the service was quite fine. The food wasn’t cheap, but for what you got, it was well worth a visit. I would definitely go back to this restaurant.

“Do yourself a favor and try Little Ethiopia”
They serve delicious, authentic Ethiopian food in a warm atmosphere. The food is served in the traditional style, so be prepared to eat with your hands. Everything we ate was amazing. If you’re a coffee drinker, definitely order coffee after your meal. They do the traditional coffee ceremony, which involves bringing out the pan of roasting beans for you to smell, then serving the coffee with incense.

“Eens iets anders”
We hebben hier gisteren genoten van het ontdekkingsmenu…Vlees, vis, kip, diverse groenten, allemaal smakelijk op tafel gebracht. Het hapje vooraf en het voorgerechtje zijn niet bijzonder maar de hoofdschotel mag er wezen. Eten met je (rechter)hand vergt een kleine inspanning maar eens die drempel voorbij is het genieten. Het Ethiopisch bier past hier het best bij en vraag zeker nog een koffie erna… Niet duur, lekker, en een zeer hartelijke ontvangst…

“Authentic Ethiopian Cuisine in Antwerp”
Take it from someone who has been to Ethiopia and absolutely fell in love with the food while I was there- this place is the real deal! The food was exactly what I would expect from a good Ethiopian restaurant. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxed and down-to-earth, just as I would expect from an Ethiopian place. The owners and waiters are Ethiopian and add to the authenticity of the experience. I was also really excited to see that they serve Ethiopian beers. I love St George’s beer. They also had Ethiopian honey wine on offer. I would recommend that you go in a group of at least 5 so you can sample different platters. Each person can spend about 20 Euro and enjoy a good meal.

“Something different”
It’s quite an interesting experience. Not only you get to try the authentic Ethiopian cuisine, the food is also served in a traditional way – meaning you have to eat it with your bare hands, rolling bits of food into flat Ethiopian bread. Don’t forget to try the coffee ceremony at the end of your meal – the coffee is good and it’s served according to Ethiopian traditions. Overall, the food’s tasty, not expensive and the whole experience is pleasant.

“Nice little restaurant not far from the river.”
Little Ethiopia is a small restaurant. I would guess that there is seating for about 30 people (plus a couple of tables outside). There is a large selection of non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes that are served with injera (the slightly spongy Ethiopian bread). You eat the food with your hands, and you will get a shared plate for two people (the person sitting opposite you) even if you order different things. The injera is served on the side (which I appreciated as it is a less messy affair :-). The food itself was absolutely delicious, the best Ethiopian I have ever eaten. The service is friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!

“Wow….this is different!”
You would be forgiven for thinking a poor country like Ethiopia could not have extensive menu restaurants or music, but you would be wrong and pleasantly surprised. There are restaurants both in the UK and Europe as a whole to tempt your taste buds. This one in Antwerp is worth the effort to find it! But stay with Belgian beer!, or wine. The staff are able to converse in at least 5 or 6 languages and only too willing to advise. The food quality and ambiance are both very good at a reasonable price. The initial main meal presentation may look “Mexican” but it really “is” Ethiopian. On my last visit one young man (about 5 years old and of French African origin) was noticed wearing the main course cover, as a Mexican hat! What a small world!
